The APM Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) accreditation is now considered internationally to be the most sought after accolade in the project management profession.

This accreditation elevates project delivery professionals to the equivalence of Chartered Accountants, Chartered Engineers, Chartered Surveyors and Chartered Financial Advisors and recognises project delivery as a formal profession.

The APM Chartered Project Professional is awarded only to project delivery professionals who can demonstrate both significant experience of working in a complex project delivery environment together with a broad knowledge of project techniques. It is the benchmark for the project delivery professionalism.

Successful candidates may use the designation ChPP after their name demonstrating that they are Chartered and will receive the highly coveted APM ChPP badge of honour.

APM Chartered Project Professional (ChPP)

To apply for chartered status, individuals must be professionally active and meet the following criteria:

Proven experience in delivering projects, programmes, portfolios, or key control/enabling functions.
Up-to-date knowledge of current practices and methods.
Active involvement in the project management profession.
36 months experience delivering projects + degree OR
60 months experience delivering projects in the past 8 years
APM PMQ or PMP qualification

Please note if you hold the APM Project Management Qualification, you’ll need to validate your experience to confirm your Recognised Assessment for Professional Practice for the Pathway 3.

What’s included in the virtual programme?

One day workshop led by an experienced ChPP mentor
Interview preparation call with ChPP mentor
Competency review from expert ChPP mentor on email
Online coaching on how to present everything to APM regarding layout, timing and structure.
Face to face support can be offered at an additional cost

The written submission and interview will be managed by APM and you will pay the fee direct to APM which is £839 +VAT per person. This consists of:

Evidence of achieving a recognised assessment.
Overviews of between one and four projects, programmes or portfolios to provide context for further evidence.
Written statements covering professional practice in the required competences.
Confirmation of CPD undertaken as required by APM’s scheme during the past 12 months.
Details of two proposers.
Agreement to commit to and comply with the APM Code of Professional Conduct.

If your written submission is successful, you’ll be invited to a one hour interview covering:

Assessment of technical knowledge across the competences, based on the contextual
evidence supplied in your written submission.
Ethics, compliance, and professionalism.

Is the APM ChPP right for me?

Chartered status shows you’ve achieved the highest standard of expertise and have proven your exceptional project capabilities, through a defined level of technical knowledge, professional practice and ethical behaviour.

The standard has been designed to be equally accessible to individuals both with or without project management qualifications (APM or others) but with significant relevant experience of projects, programmes or portfolios. It’s drawn from the APM Competence Framework.

How will the chartered standard bring value to my career?

The award of the Chartered Project Professional standard will bring value to you personally as a recognisable mark of quality and professionalism. The standard is also valued by employers who see the benefits in a competitive market of employing a team of chartered project professionals. Much of this value comes from the knowledge that there is a rigorous assessment process behind the award and that the chartered standard is a recognised professional designation across a range of professions.

What happens if I haven’t been directly involved in delivering projects for some time? Am I eligible to apply?

If your most recent experience of delivering projects is more than five years old, you can still apply. You will need to provide additional evidence to explain how you have kept current during this time.

How will I use the ChPP postnominals once I become a Chartered Project Professional?

On becoming a Chartered Project Professional, you will be given the post nominals ChPP to use at the end of your name. Here are some examples on how you can use the post nominals:

If you hold ChPP: Your name ChPP

If you hold ChPP and are a member of APM : Your name ChPP, FAPM/MAPM/HonFAPM

If you hold ChPP and RPP: Your name ChPP RPP

If you hold ChPP, RPP and are a member of APM: Your name ChPP, FAPM/MAPM/HonFAPM, RPP

There is no formal exam when undertaking your APM Chartered Project Professional.
