Your step-by-step guide to booking your exam

Who can take an exam?

  • Exams are available to everyone who is studying a course with Training ByteSize. If you don’t have a course with us yet you can view our current course options here.

How far in advance can I book?

  • As many people are choosing to sit their exams online at the moment, please book your exam as far in advance as you can, ideally with two weeks notice and within your course licence period, thank you

When can I take my exam?

  • Your exam can be taken 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • It must be taken within your course licence period

What do I need for the exam?

  • A computer with a webcam, microphone and ideally a hard wired internet connection
  • Some organisations have firewall restrictions in place which may not allow you to sit the exam at work. In these circumstances you can either talk to your IT department or if you have one, use your computer at home. Please get in touch with any questions you may have on this

About your online exam

All exams (except APM Project Management & PRINCE2®) can be taken online using ProctorU.

PRINCE2® exams can be taken online through PeopleCert.

ProctorU provides an integrated-hardware solution that brings academic integrity to distance learning examinations by offering a remote proctoring service.

The invigilator/proctor will invigilate your exam via the webcam on your PC. They have the authority to terminate the examination if they are certain or suspect suspicious activity. The Proctor will have remote access to your computer during the exam.

PeopleCert online exams

PeopleCert are the examination board used for all PRINCE2® for ITIL4 and MSP exams
  • For an online exam, your PC will need a webcam, microphone and working speakers.
  • You will also need a reliable, high speed internet connection, preferably a hard wire internet connection.
  • Have a valid photo ID available, such as National ID card, passport, driving license, military card, employer identification card (in English), Academic ID, as your webproctor will need to verify your ID before you begin your exam.
  • Disable any virtualisation Software such as VMware, Virtual PC, Virtual Box or Sandbox during the exam. For exam security reasons, the ExamShield cannot run through any virtualisation software. You should also close any applications that might affect the exam process, such as web browsers, chat, desktop sharing and mail client applications.
  • It is recommended you complete the online exam on your home PC using your home network as often organisations have firewalls that block the relevant software for online exams.
  • Your online exam booking form must be submitted at least 7 working days’ prior to your chosen exam date. Exceptions can be made on request.
  • Once you have completed the online exam booking form, you will receive a confirmation email from Training ByteSize within 2 working days’ providing further details on how to register with the exam board.
  • You will need to register for your exam using your exam voucher at least 4 hours prior to your chosen exam time.
  • You must download ExamShield at least one hour prior to the start time of your exam.
  • You will need photo ID and you must adhere to the rules of the room set up.
  • You will need to perform a 360 view of the room for the invigilator (you can use a mirror for this) to show there is no one else in the room with you.
  • You will not be allowed to be interrupted at any point during the examination.

You will receive a provisional exam result as soon as you complete the exam, however this can change once the exam has been moderated. You will receive an email from your exam board with your official result within 5 working days of the exam and you will be able to view this in your candidate portal. Following this, your e-certificate will be available to download from your candidate portal within 7 working days’ of your exam date.

On the day of your exam:

  • You have your photo ID available.
  • You can rotate your webcam 360 degrees.
  • No additional camera or screen is connected to your computer.
  • You are the only person in the room throughout the exam session.
  • There is no background noise in the room.
  • There is adequate light in the room, but no direct light towards the web camera.
  • Your desk is clean.
  • All phones are deactivated.

For Windows

  • Windows® 10, Windows® 8.1, Windows® 8, Windows® 7, Windows® Vista.
  • Dual-core 2.4GHz CPU or faster with 2GB of RAM (recommended).
  • An active Full-Time/Broadband internet connection of at least 4Mbps
  • 16-bit monitor (at least 15”) with screen resolution 1024 x 768 or higher
  • Keyboard and mouse or other pointing device
  • A single web camera (embedded or external) you can rotate
  • Speakers and microphone (the use of headsets is not allowed)

For Mac

  • OSX 10.9 (Mavericks), 10.10 (Yosemite) or 10.11 (El Capitan).
  • Mac compatible web camera and microphone (for Mac Mini and Mac Pro).
  • An active Full-Time/Broadband internet connection of at least 4Mbps
  • Apple Keyboard and mouse or any other pointing device
  • Speakers and microphone (the use of headsets is not allowed)

Other online exams

ProctorU is currently available for taking APMG, APM or BCS accredited exams.
  • For an online exam, your PC will need a webcam, microphone and working speakers.
  • You will also need a reliable, high speed internet connection, preferably a hard wire internet connection.
  • You will also need the ability to allow video and screen sharing connectivity. You can test your PC’s compatibility with ProctorU here and connect to a live Proctor technician.
  • It is recommended you complete the online exam on your home PC using your home network as often organisations have firewalls that block the relevant software for online exams.
  • Your online exam booking form must be submitted at least 7 working days’ prior to your chosen exam date. Exceptions can be made on request.
  • Once you have completed the online exam booking form, you will receive a confirmation email from Training ByteSize within 2 working days’ providing further details on how to register with the exam board and schedule your exam slot.
  • You will need to log into your exam 10 minutes prior to your exam start time.
  • You will need photo ID and you must adhere to the rules of the room set up.
  • You will need to perform a 360 view of the room for the invigilator (you can use a mirror for this) to show there is no one else in the room with you.
  • You will not be allowed to be interrupted at any point during the examination.

You will receive a provisional exam result as soon as you complete the exam, however this can change once the exam has been moderated. You will receive an email from your exam board with your official result within 5 working days of the exam and you will be able to view this in your candidate portal. Following this, your e-certificate will be available to download from your candidate portal within 7 working days’ of your exam date.

  • Test your equipment here before your appointment to confirm the computer being used is compatible for proctoring. This site runs an automated check on your system, or connects you with a live person, if needed. Please also see our technical requirements listed below
  • Make sure the internet connection is fast and reliable. If you are connected through an intermittent WiFi connection, we recommend plugging in to the modem to avoid disconnections during the exam
  • If you are taking a Practitioner, open book, exam you are permitted to use the official Manual during the exam. The manual must not contain any inserts
  • Have your valid ID or other photo ID ready to verify identity
  • If your webcam is attached to the computer, make sure to have a mirror or reflective surface such as a mirror, CD, mobile phone or electronic tablet screen available so the proctor can inspect the computer monitor edges and keyboard
  • Please turn off all phones and find a comfortable, quiet spot in a well-lit room. Make sure the room’s light source, such as a window or lamp, is in front of you in order to avoid shadowing or glare. Your proctor will need a clear view of your surroundings and face in order to grant access to the exam
  • At the date and time of your appointment, return to www.proctoru.com/portal/apmg-international and log in. A message will appear saying “Connect to Your Proctor Now”. Click on this button and it will automatically take you to the proctoring room. Next, click the button under Step 1 that says “Click to Download”. You will be prompted to download and run a file. Instructions to run the file will be customised based on your web browser
  • ProctorU will run an applet, or temporary programme, on your computer that will allow us to view your screen and what programmes are running during your exam session. This programme will expire once you close it. Please have all programmes not related to the exam closed before logging in to ensure the best experience
  • Once connected, the proctor will walk you through the testing process and into the exam. If there are any technical issues or connectivity is lost, please call ProctorU immediately at +1 855-772-8678
  • Your allotted exam time begins once you are entered into the exam by your proctor.

Candidates are responsible for meeting the following technical requirements:

  • A reliable computer running Windows XP (or higher) or Mac OS X 10 (or higher)
  • A web cam with 640×480 video pixel resolution or higher
  • Working speakers connected to the computer
  • A working microphone connected to the computer. We recommend a web cam that has a built in microphone
  • A web browser with Adobe Flash Player installed. We recommend Flash Player 10
  • A reliable, high-speed internet connection
  • The ability to allow video and screen-sharing connections to the computer used to take an exam.

Online exam terms and conditions

  • Exams can only be booked if you have Training ByteSize course within the course licence period.
  • Exams will only be booked when full payment is received
  • Exam booking form must be submitted 7 working days prior to your chosen exam date
  • Candidates must complete the online registration with the examination board to enable online exam to be sat.
  • Training Bytesize must be informed in writing of any candidate dispensations at the time of booking the exam
  • You are able to reschedule your exam date as long as it is within your licence period. You are able to reschedule your exam date once at no cost. Rescheduling your exam date for a second time will incur a £30 admin fee
  • Any changes to your exam must be made a minimum of 48 hours prior to your exam date, failure to do so may result in a charge to you from the examination board
  • Any attempt to sit the exam will be classified as taken
  • If you require a re-sit, you will need to purchase the exam as per the current exam price
  • Training ByteSize must be notified if a candidate is resitting the exam by either email or telephone
