The challenge
Following a delegate’s attendance on one of our public APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) courses, Training ByteSize began discussions with Eurofins about creating a bespoke training programme that better reflected the needs of their organisation.
Eurofins wanted to strengthen project management capability across multiple departments by equipping managers, directors and technical specialists with practical project management skills they could immediately apply in the workplace. While the APM PFQ provided the ideal framework, a standard qualification course didn’t offer enough time to explore practical worked examples, discuss different project management methodologies or focus on real business scenarios.
They needed a programme tailored to their business objectives while still supporting delegates who may later choose to achieve the APM PFQ qualification.
Our solution
Rather than asking Eurofins to adapt to an existing course, we adapted the course around Eurofins’ objectives.
Using the APM PFQ syllabus as the foundation, our experienced trainer redesigned elements of the programme to place greater emphasis on practical application rather than formal examination.
The bespoke two-day workshop included:
- Project management essentials
- The complete project lifecycle
- Practical worked examples
- Understanding how different project management methodologies work together
- Interactive discussions throughout
- A recognised APM structure that supports future PFQ study
To create additional time for practical learning, formal exam preparation and examination activities were removed, resulting in a workshop designed around business outcomes rather than certification alone.

The results
The programme received consistently excellent feedback from delegates, with trainer knowledge, course delivery and the learning environment frequently receiving the highest possible scores. Across four workshops delivered in the UK and Ireland, more than 50 managers benefited from a programme that combined recognised project management best practice with practical workplace application.
