PRINCE2 Now Recognised at RQF Levels 3 and 4

PRINCE2

What does PRINCE2’s new RQF recognition mean for learners?

PeopleCert has announced that PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner have now been formally mapped against the UK’s Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).

The outcome of this exercise confirms:

• PRINCE2 Foundation = RQF Level 3
• PRINCE2 Practitioner = RQF Level 4

While PRINCE2 has long been recognised as one of the world’s leading project management methodologies, this new mapping provides additional clarity around the academic level of the knowledge and skills learners are expected to demonstrate.

Why is this important?

The RQF is the framework used to compare qualifications and learning outcomes across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

By assigning official RQF levels, learners and employers can better understand how PRINCE2 compares with other recognised qualifications.

In practical terms:

PRINCE2 Foundation (Level 3) is comparable to the level of study expected at A-Level.
PRINCE2 Practitioner (Level 4) reflects learning at a level comparable to the first year of higher education (university) or an HNC. Our PRINCE2 certification guide covers the cost of each level, the exam formats and renewal.

What does this mean for professionals?

For those considering a career in project management, the announcement reinforces the depth and value of PRINCE2 certifications.

The formal recognition:

✓ Provides greater transparency around qualification difficulty and progression
✓ Gives employers additional confidence when assessing candidate skills
✓ Helps learners demonstrate the level of professional knowledge they have achieved
✓ Strengthens the position of PRINCE2 as a globally recognised project management qualification

Why now?

The levelling activity was conducted by PeopleCert in partnership with City & Guilds and involved subject matter experts mapping qualification learning outcomes against the RQF level descriptors.

The result is a more clearly defined pathway for learners looking to build project management expertise and advance their careers.

Whether you’re taking your first step into project management with PRINCE2 Foundation or progressing towards Practitioner level, the new RQF recognition provides further evidence of the qualification’s value in today’s workplace.
