Callum Downing is Lead APM Trainer at Training ByteSize, with over 15 years’ experience in project management and a background in the aerospace and defence sector. He has trained more than 500 delegates in APM qualifications, from people new to the profession through to experienced practitioners.
Callum is PMQ qualified and a Member of the Association for Project Management (MAPM), and holds further credentials including EVM Practitioner, CIPS, and the TAP Diploma in training delivery, combining deep subject knowledge with formal expertise in how people learn.
In September 2024 he sat the modernised APM PMQ exam himself, giving him direct, current experience of the new mixed-format assessment that candidates now face:
“The current version of the PMQ is a very challenging exam, but it’s much more accessible than any previous version. It has a blend of question types, including multiple choice and written styles, with all of the questions designed to test your knowledge and application of the APM’s syllabus, which is aligned with their competence framework. If I had to sum it up, I’d call it tough but fair.”
This first-hand perspective shapes how Callum prepares delegates, focusing not just on the syllabus but on what the exam actually asks of candidates on the day. He writes on APM qualifications, preparing for the PFQ and PMQ, and what the modernised PMQ assessment involves in practice.
